Mr. Salmers was recognized by Industry Minister Manley at the Connecting Canadians Day event in Estevan on October, 1998. Estevan CAP was featured in the September, 1999 issue of Sympatico's Netlife magazine. Estevan's Smart Communities proposal was shortlisted to Stage 2 of the national Smart Communities competition in 2000. Estevan CAP's web site for the South Saskatchewan Regiment was recognized by LibraryNet as one of 18 "best practices" web sites for content creation in Canada, in June, 2001. Mr. Salmers was made a life member of the SSR Association in September, 2001, for these efforts. On 29Oct2001 he was recognized for pioneering efforts in creating the 700-computer Municipal Area Network in Estevan during the period 1995-2001, at the Official Launch of Saskatchewan's Community Net programme which was held at Westview School, the first school connected via CommunityNet. He is also a life member of the Royal Canadian Armoured Association, as of 2008. In 2009, he was given the Frances Morrison Award by the Saskatchewan Library Association for outstanding service to libraries, and as a result is an honourary life member of that Association.
