The Estevan History Book Committee is happy to present this history of Estevan and area to those within its boundaries as well as to those beyond and even to some beyond the sea.
We sincerely thank all those who have contributed to its pages. Some have done outstanding work, but in case we might miss one or more we will not mention any names. The help by the representative of Friesen Printers has also been much appreciated.
We wish to commend all individuals and organizations who have made financial contributions, without which the publication would have been impossible.
We feel the book most of all is a memorial to the pioneers of this great land who came from all parts of the world. at the turn of the century, with little except faith, hope and ambition.
Without financial resources they built farmsteads and villages, and turned the expanse of open prairie into a land of agricultural and industrial development. Those of us who are older now bridge a gap between the past and the present. To those who are younger we hope that this book will help them develop a keen interest in this wonderful heritage. We also hope that the book will be a long lasting link with the past for those who come after us.
We sometimes regret that this protect was not started a decade sooner. We could have drawn upon the knowledge and experience of those who have more recently passed to their rest. However, to balance this we have the results of books that have been published in other areas for which we are thankful.
Our main objectives have been –If this publication accomplishes at least some of these objectives, the hard work of those involved will not have been in vain.
We apologize for any errors or omissions, which in a project of this magnitude can be expected.
To those who have passed this way: to those of the present and to future citizens we sincerely dedicate this book.
