TerHart Surveying Service Ltd. Estevan, Sask.

Jan D. Ter Hart, a Commissioned Saskatchewan and Alberta Land Surveyor, established the company "TerHart Surveying Services Ltd." in Estevan, Sask., March 1958. At that time the oil boom was declining but there was still a lot of activity in Estevan and surrounding area, warranting the establishment of a firm engaged in legal and other types of surveys with a Registered Surveyor residing in Estevan.
Since its inception the firm has been actively engaged in surveys for the oil industry, staking out oilwells, access roads, pipelines, and many other surveys relating to that particular field of oil exploration. In addition legal surveys for subdivisions such as Scotsburn in Estevan and surrounding municipalities, towns and villages have been carried out over the years, as well as a considerable number of miles of gridroads for the Department of Highways.
The firm has been actively engaged in staking out the foundations of the Saskatchewan Power Corporation Boundary Dam Power Station, Comprehensive School, Estevan Shopper's Mall, topographical surveys, Boundary surveys of Indian reserves, etc.
Several farmers had their section lines established. Consider that the first surveys for the Townships in Southeastern Saskatchewan were done in 1880-1881 and that during the thirties a lot of survey monuments were buried by drifting soil, retracing the original survey is not always an easy task.
The areas being serviced stretch from Manitoba West - past the Big Muddy and from the 49th Parallel North to the No. 1 Highway. At the present time an upsurge is apparent in the oil industry and the future for this area should be secure. Members of the long standing firm are Kenneth Lang, a Senior Technologist, who has been with the firm since the beginning and his assistant, Raymond Burner.
