The Church of God in Estevan is a dirsect result of the establishment of International Bible College which was the church college located near Outram.
The church was officially organized by Rev. J.A. Brost as first acting pastor, who called a meeting in September 1949 when the decision was made to build a church building at 634-4th Street. It was completed in the fall of 1950. This building was the home of the congregation for 29 years.
Other pastors since include Revs. Robert Reesor, now vice president of International Bible College located in Moose Jaw, Sask., Ernest Pennington is pastor of the Church of God in Bruno, West Virginia, Arthur Aspinall pastor of the Church of God in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Jerold Daniels is Winninpeg, Manitoba, Walter Engel now pastor of the Church of God in Bismarck, North Dakota, Gerhard Becker is a Missionary in South Africa. At the annual church business meeting in Feb. of 1976, the congregation, under the leadership of Pastor Harder, voted to relocate and build a new church. Later a three acre property across from the Regional Nursing Home on Welock Road became available. This was purchased in the summer of 1976 with plans to build in 1977. In Jan. of 1977, after our present pastor, Rev. Barsness arrived, planning and finance committees were appointed and definite plans for construction were outlined.
On August 7, 1977 we had our ground breaking service. Our pastor Rev. Barsness and board members John Johnson, Vern Whitman, Calvin Johnson and charter member Mrs. Ida Horner turned the first sod.
On August 31, the construction of the basement began. Duting the following months, the pastor and congregation worked at the building of the new church.
Sept. 24, 1978 was the first Sunday the congregation worshipped in the new church. On Nov. 5, the church had its Dedication Service.
The church is an L shaped building covering 4,408sq. feet. The main floor has a pastor's office, entry, foyer, nursery, two rest rooms, library, baptistry and sanctuary seating approx. 200 people. The 3,736 sq. feet of basement, houses a modern kitchen, six class rooms, two rest rooms, service rooms and a fellowship hall. The yard is landscaped, cement walks were installed, also a gravalled parking lot. The front of the church has a face of beautiful brick and stone, centered with a cross.
A new community interest has been shown in the church since it began to use the new facilities. Visitors attend the service and real congregational growth has been noted.
We give God the glory for this beautiful and comfortable church. He has allowed us to worship in.
