Estevan Royal Purple Lodge #74

Estevan Lodge #74 order of Royal Purple was instituted December thirteenth, 1943, by District Deputy Supreme Honor Royal Lady, Anna Knutson of Regina, Saskatchewan. The Brother Elks assisting were Brothers R.C. Burrell, N. W. Perkins, Harold Clasky and Erick Quist of B.P.O. Elks Lodge 113 Estevan - Eighteen Ladies took the obligation.

Honors have been brought to the lodge when Lady Olive Hitchcock was elected to Supreme Lodge in years 1948, 1953 and 1969. District Deputy offices were filled by the following: Olive Hitchcock 1950, 1954 and 1955, Rose Nicholson 1953, Marie Bill 1960, Mary Hagel 1963, Florence Morin 1966 and Alice Marklinger 1968.

From date of Institution until present time, on the first Wednesday in June each year, the order of Royal Purple have a Pansy Tea and entertainment for the Senior ladies of Estevan. To date 2163 ladies have signed the register. This Lodge has always been active in many phases of community work but, with special pride recalls being invited to cater to the Welcome Home banquet May 1946 for the returned boys in this area, and their parents and other dignitaries. This was held at River Park Pavilion with an attendance of 500.

In the fall of 1947, we served the banquet for the opening of the Saskatchewan Power Commission's Million dollar plant at Estevan. Dignitaries were present for the occasion. This was followed by a banquet at the Elks Hall for one hundred guests, Royal Purple ladies catering. The remarks were complimentary and amusing.

In 1947 we gave two teeters and a novelty Elephant Slide to the Elks Park. The slide was made at a cost of Three Hundred dollars and a contest was held to name the elephant. The winner, Donald Martin got two dollars for the name "Elko".

In 1969 we presented two wheel chairs to the Estevan Regional Nursing Home, donated tables and chairs to the School for the Deaf, and decorated the Order of Royal Purple room at St. Joseph's Hospital.

We donate annually to the B.P.O. Elks project, the Purple Cross Fund and also to many worthy causes in our Community.
