On a stormy March 4, 1923, I was born to Ethelwyn and Jay Durr at their farm home near Bromhead, the youngest of their five children. Attending were Dr. James Brown, who came by team and sleigh, and nurse Mary Mingle. Childhood was a happy time even though it was during the time of drought and depression. The mixed farming operations kept everyone busy, but there was still time to enjoy ourselves and self- made entertainment and to roam the prairie. When the dust storms blew away the top soil on the fields it was perfect for hunting arrowheads and other Indian artifacts or prairie agates. Long Creek was a wonderful source of entertainment. It provided swimming and sometimes fishing in the summer and skating and trapping in the winter. Schneller school, the center for social life as well as education, was 2 1/2 miles from home and we walked, or went by team and buggy or sleigh according to season. Later I attended Bromhead High School and went into a farming partnership with my father.
Georgean was the youngest of the five children of Estella and George McAdam of Bromhead. She attended school in Bromhead, then Regina Teachers' College and taught at Hamar School. We were married by Reverend Elliot on January 1, 1945 at Mother
