Roy Sanderson was born at Section 24, Township 29, Range 21, West of the 2nd Meridian, 7 miles east of Nokomis or 85 miles north of Regina, in 1913. He moved to the Estevan area in the fall of 1959 to work with SaskPower.
Roy always had an interest in archaeology. When he first arrived in the Estevan area he started looking for arrowheads. He found arrowheads, and much more. Other items included TeePee rings, fossils, native Canadian artifacts, bones from the drained MacDonald Lake shore exposure, archaeological evidence found by Rafferty dam archaeologists. The MacDonald Lake find indicated a Native kill site involving two valleys with steep sides into which buffalo would be driven, killed, and harvested.
Roy is an unofficial tour guide of the Estevan area.
