A few years ago, a friend of mine was madly in love with a Ukrainian. When the affair ended, she was devastated, crying for him and his culture. She bemoaned his rich Ukrainian heritage, saying her English heritage was pale in comparison. I was appalled by her attitude. From that moment on, I became overtly conscious of my English heritage.
As well as my ancestral roots, my paintings are influenced by my experience as a Canadian woman. There is, however, a tinge of feminism and an accompanying subtle angst always present.
