Project description- The main objective of this project is for the students to explore a variety of poetry forms. These poems will be from Yukon Poets or poems about the Klondike Gold Rush. They will use AppleWorks to create poetry booklets. They will also use the Internet to paste clip art onto their sheets.
Subject Area: Grade Seven English
Length of time: Two - 45 minute periods once the students have written their poetry

Objectives:
1. Students will extend their abilities to write fluently and
confidently for a variety of purposes and audiences, applying
appropriate formats --experiment with a variety of other forms
of writing
2. Learn page layout skills from a page layout program
Information Literacy
Technology will be used to help students learn how to:
1. Use AppleWorks to publish their poetry
2. Learn and use page layouts software.
3. Use the Internet to find appropriate clip art.
Main steps
1. Teacher will do a search on the Internet for the clip art sites
which the students can access free clip. The teacher will bookmark
the sites for the students.
2. Teacher will give instructions on how to use Apple Works. The teacher will demonstrate how to change font, size, style, and spell check. The teacher will demonstrate how to access and copy clip art from the Internet using bookmarks.
3. After the students have finished their rough drafts of an acoustic poem, Haiku, rhyming couplet, cinquian, and free verse poem, they will type the poetry in using Apple Works.
4. They must experiment will style, size, and font. In addition, they must also use spell check.
5. Students will gather clip art from the Internet using the book marked sites.
6. Students will print their poetry and hand in.
